Close call
Published by Jake Allen January 5th, 2004 in UncategorizedYesterday I did have a little story that I forgot to write about. I was at the top of the Spanish Steps, leaving the church there, when a few of the beggers, females, surrounded me and began asking for money in increasingly fast Italian. My first “No comprendo” did not work, and as I tried to walk away they followed, moving in closer. With one hand on my wallet pocket, I waved them off with another “No Comprendo!”, much louder this time. Two backed off. One continued to harrass me as I continued down the first set of stairs. I pointed my finger at her as I said, “No, no comprendo, no.” She retreated.
Aaaah, the power of “No comprendo.”
MADNESS!

Ahhhh, yes. I think pointing was the key though. Way to not let them surround you and raise your voice a bit. Not enough to really draw other attention to yourself, but enough to worry them that you might draw attention to them.
I will begin to practice the same for Regis.
{waving finger}
“No, no, no more toys! Comprendo?, no!”
I do not think he will retreat as eaisly.
Just be sure not to spare the rod.
Surrounded by women asking for money? Sounds like your dad’s life at home! Hahaha
