It’s a good day to be indigenous.

May Day

We celebrate the first of May for three reasons:
1) Ancient pagan rituals.
2) Spring does not have enough holidays since Easter always falls on a Sunday.
3) The Haymarket Riots of 1886. “Workers” burned and looted Chicago like it was LA or something and we gave those pagan gangs (”Labor Temple“?) closed shops.

Death becomes us

Today, May 2nd 2005, is:
1) The 142nd anniversary of Stonewall Jackson’s friendly-fire wound at Chancellorsville, he died from the wound 8-days later.
2) The 48th anniversary of the death of whistle-blower Sen. Joseph McCarthy by alcohol-related hepatitis.
3) The 33rd anniversary of the death of FBI boss and general weirdo J. Edgar Hoover, in his sleep.

The second law of thermodynamics aside . . .
This /. entry has an extended rant(s) about the Pseudoscience of Intelligent Design, an article at kiro5hin. I enjoy both /. and kiro5hin regularly (warning: like most public forums, they both contain profanity and madness!).
I bring up the issue now because a PA school board is […]

I just re-read my archive of May 2004 posts on Ockhamist.com. Some of this stuff is still current: gas prices, e-commerce, legal musings, recycled current events, personal travel, et al. Almost makes me want to take this site in a […]

Here’s a little hometown madness . . .
Great Falls, MT, voters ousted school board chairman Mick Taleff and board trustee Elna Hensley, both supporters of closing the east-side middle school (creatively named, “East”), and replacing them with candidates who support closing the central middle school (”Paris Gibson”). The upper-class middle school on the north-side […]

I bought my mother and grandmother “Mother’s Day” cards on Monday, but failed to mail them today. This means that they will likely arrive late.

Missing Link

“Missing Link” found in Utah; unfortunately it’s all science and not at all sexy (w/pic). The unwashed hairy guy that you know is not the missing link. Loch Ness does not contain the missing link. No, it’s another dinosaur/bird-like thing from another uninhabited semi-arid region. Yet in an unpredictable stunner, the fat […]
