Spam

I am getting spammed on this site with unusual ferocity. Since the database can only take 5000 queries per hour, many hours each day the site is unusable. I am (slowly) removing old trackbacks and old comments.

    Are you not using MT-Blacklist? Life without it is miserable; life with it is at least tolerable.

    You should also be using a CAPTCHA or similar scheme to ensure that comments come from humans, not robots.

    To answer a question long after anyone cares, yes, I do use blacklist, but not a CAPTCHA . . . I’ve always thought that they discouraged real humans too much.

    Now that spam is a real problem, I don’t yet have the energy to go and rework old posts into a captcha . . . but one may be coming in the future.

    Madness!
