How to travel to Western Europe; pt. 1

I am not the most qualified person to write on this topic. Traveling oversees is a complex (but rewarding) endeavor, one that cannot be even summarized, much less fully realized in a blog. However, from many conversations I may be the person most likely to tell you what I am about to . . . so listen up! I have been to Italy (2X), France (2X), Ireland, UK, Amsterdam, and Spain on four differnet excursions. Here are some notes; I hope they bring you a step closer to going yourself.
1) It’s easy.
Traveling to Western Europe is easier than traveling within North America. Really, it is. Sure, it takes a little perspective to see it this way, but it’s true. All of the arrangements are easier or comparable than AMerican travel. Flying to and within Western Europe is easier and cheaper than flying within North America. Naturally, it’s cheaper to fly from a major American city to another major American city than it is to fly from whereever you live to a major European city, but try flying from a medium US city to another medium US city more than 800 miles away for less than it costs to fly to France, and if you try really hard you might save $20, or you might not. Flying within Europe is dirt cheap. I flew from Dublin to London for €14 ($21). I took trains in Italy for pocket change. Securing a hotel (or any other variety of lodging) is easier and cheaper than in America. (break)
