. . . their government(s) teaches them how!

Some recent comments on my entry of 12/05/2005, “Police State“:

In the Netherlands (in which i live :)) It is mandatory to show your ID if someone from the police asks you since January 2005. this is because of security reasons(they say) so if they suspect you of being a terrorist, they can just ask you. but they don’t need a viable reason. so if you’re not doing anything illegal(like for instance smoking marihuana, protesting or gathering or other things) you could be fined with a maximum of €200(~$230) or even taken to jail for 2 months for not showing your ID or passport.
I have to say that this kind of thing doesn’t really happen all that often that someone gets fine for it but it has happened.
another weird thing about this law is that if you’re younger than 15 years. you don’t have to show you’re ID. but how are you going to prove you’re under 15 and don’t need an ID if you’re not carrying one. there have been people that have been fined for not showing their ID while they where younger than 15.

Thanks for the update, Bart! America, is this a window into our future?

Madness!
