I think I figured out why the Movable Type died.  The table which names all of the entries, ‘mt_fileinfo.MYI’, is missing from the database.  I do not know why, or how to replace it, if that were possible.  That seriously limits what I can do with MT now.
I will leave the MT blog intact for […]

But they are quite different than before . .  .

Madness!

I’ve reduced the load time of this page by three seconds, vs the original ockhamist.com.  There is 10% less data, and better use of stylesheets.  This page has a load time comparable to yahoo.com.

It feels good to have the page working again.

Hermeneutic Thought

If you take the text out of context, you are left with a con of your own devising.

Forgive the meta-blogging, but the webpage is working out great. Lots of you guys are reading it, according to the stats (I’ll have more acurate numbers when June starts and I’m done loading the page ten times a day to check changes in colors, fonts, et al). Hits are going to skyrocket when I […]

“American Idol” is over, for a few months anyway. Enter the knock-off shows.

“Lost” ended their season last night with (hold your breath) more unanswered questions!
US House Speaker Dennis Hastert is, or is not, under investigation. Somehow the ABCnews/DNC got the attention off the guy who took a bribe on tape.
Lack of sleep associated with weight […]

Invisibility Cloak

Scientists believe they can create a suit made of material that can bend light around a person, thus rendering them invisible.
“This is very interesting science and a very interesting idea and it is supported on a great mathematical and physical basis,” said Nader Engheta, a professor of electrical and systems engineering at the University […]

Boy’s 1969 death proven to be HIV-related.    Was likely a homosexual.  Articles has some interesting hypotheses, particularly that AIDS came to America several times before the early-1980s outbreak.

I’m going to go watch X-Men 3 tonight. W00T.

Also, Blandus, please use 1 or more categories when you post, not that we can see it when you do, ha!  They create nice little category pages, like this.  Cheers!

It’s wonderful how the internet connects people when geography, language, and culture have natural divisions.  An artist (and law professor?) at Trinity in Dublin, Fergus Ryan, sent me the above drawing of The Rick of Cahsel in Ireland. (I saw it in January of 2005. photos).  He was one of the thousands of people who […]

This is my all-time favorite mockery of that movie. And the other one.

My “Movies that didn’t happen” page is still one of the most popular pages on this site, thanks to Google Image Search.  Yes, I know that there’s an ontological problem with the title, thank you.  In November of 2003, I stole half of […]

“X-Men 3:  The Last Stand” had the second-highest grossing single-day box office ever yesterday.  I was a part of that.  You’re welcome.  Of the top 20 highest grossing days, they are all fantasy except for “The Passion of the Christ” at number 20.  Mostly Star Wars, Marvel Comics, Harry Potter, Shrek, LOTR, and assorted varieties.

It […]
